CONDITION OF ACCESS

MOZAIC DATA PROTOCOL

Besides of the scientific goals of the MOZAIC programme, it is the philosophy of MOZAIC to maximize the scientific use of the MOZAIC Data Base and to have a large scientific output in atmospheric research.

The MOZAIC Data Base is a huge experimental reservoir of data and is of valuable interest for the international scientific community. It has been decided by the MOZAIC PIs to open the data base on the principle of collaboration and after signature of a MOZAIC Data Protocol.

The access by the external community to the entire content of the MOZAIC Data Base will be based on a real collaboration with MOZAIC PIs, after elaboration of a detailed programme by requesting scientists in touch with corresponding PI(s) and fulfilling.

This procedure will enhance the scientific activity around MOZAIC data by tightening the links between MOZAIC participants and co-investigators and by giving a real scientific feedback to the programme. This will not limit in fact the use of MOZAIC data by the international community but just organize the work around.

In the case when international programmes in the field of atmospheric chemistry and/or physics, which involve European scientists in intensive campaigns, would find the MOZAIC data (O3, H2O, winds, temperature...) useful over selected periods, regions and times, then these data can be made available following a request from the project PIs and subsequent approval by the MOZAIC PI's.

HOW TO BECOME A MOZAIC CO-INVESTIGATOR

To join the MOZAIC programme and to become a MOZAIC co-investigator, please:
  • Download the MOZAIC Data Protocol form (or request it from the MOZAIC Secretariat), sign it and return it to Jean-Pierre CAMMAS (camjp@aero.obs-mip.fr) (with a copy to Fernand KARCHER (fernand.karcher@meteo.fr ))
  • Provide an abstract (ca. 1 page) describing your project, the data reqested, and the intended collaboration with corresponding MOZAIC PI(s). This document  will be submitted for acceptation to the MOZAIC PIs before giving you the status of Co-Investigator. You can either send your abstract to the MOZAIC Secretariat or "copy and paste" your text in the appropriate field of the online form below. Afterwards, you will receive the password for access to the MOZAIC data base. In principle, access can be denied for co-investigators whose request is in conflict with the MOZAIC-PI’s own research or with the data protocol, although this has never happened so far.
  • As a MOZAIC co-investigator, you are requested to provide a short (~1-page) annual report summarizing the work performed with MOZAIC data, including references of publications and the type of MOZAIC data used (raw data, averaged data, species, time periods, …). This information is important for us in order to improve the service to the community and to demonstrate the need for and the value of the MOZAIC data.
We hope that this procedure will not refrain the co-investigators from continuing a research work that is very much appreciated within the partners of the MOZAIC project. For the airlines supporting MOZAIC, research on the impact of aviation is particularly welcome.
